Lewis Hamitlon wins Canadian Grand Prix

Lewis Hamilton put the disappointment of Monaco behind him by cruising to a routine victory in the Canadian Grand Prix on Sunday.

Lewis Hamilton returned to winning ways with an impressive victory in the Canadian Grand Prix, finishing ahead of team-mate Nico Rosberg as Mercedes clinched another one-two.
Defending world champion Hamilton came third at the Monaco Grand Prix two weeks ago, after his team called him in for a late pit-stop – a tactical error that allowed Rosberg and Ferrari’s Sebastian Vettel to finish ahead of him.
There were no such mistakes in Montreal on Sunday, as Hamilton led from the start and comfortably held off Rosberg to extend his advantage at the top of the drivers’ standings.
That lead now stands at 17 points, after Hamilton clinched his fourth victory from seven races in 2015.
It was also his fourth success at Circuit Gilles Villeneuve, after earlier wins in 2007, 2010 and 2012.
Williams’ Valtteri Bottas came in third for his first podium of the season, ahead of Ferrari’s Kimi Raikkonen, while Vettel made good progress from starting 18th on the grid to claim fifth place.
WHERE THE RACE WAS WON
Mercedes got their tactics spot on this time, with Hamilton and Rosberg starting the race on the front row and maintaining their positions until the chequered flag.
OFF TO A FLYER
Hamilton and Rosberg pulled away strongly in a clean start, while Vettel and Williams’ Felipe Massa (sixth) weaved through the field after unfavourable starting spots on the grid.
HOT LAP
Raikkonen was the only man to break one minute 17 seconds, with his 1:16.987 helping him to a fourth-place finish.
RACE TO FORGET
McLaren, again. Only three of the 20 cars retired, and two of those were Fernando Alonso and Jenson Button with exhaust problems.
RACE STAT TO REMEMBER
First points of the season for Lotus’ Pastor Maldonado, who finished seventh. The Venezuelan had been forced to retire in five of the six previous races.
