US Is Donating $5M not $5bn To Fight Terrorists
The US has said that it is donating $5million to the fight against Boko Haram and not $5 billion as widely reported.
The clarification was made on Tuesday, June 16, 2015, by the US Embassy in Nigeria via a statement.
It reads:
“Yesterday, Monday, June 15, members of the U.S. government delegation to the African Union Summit in Johannesburg, South Africa briefed reporters on the range of U.S. engagement in Africa.”
“It was widely reported that the United States is offering $5 billion to the Multinational Joint Task Force to fight Boko Haram. The U.S. Embassy wishes to clarify that the amount is $5 million.”
The donation had been announced by the US Assistant Secretary, Bureau of African Affairs, Linda Thomas-Greenfield, during a telephone press briefing in South Africa.
