Guardiola Support Laporta's Barcelona presidency Race

Former Barcelona boss Pep Guardiola has publicly backed Joan Laporta's bid for a second spell as club president.

Laporta spent seven years in the top job at Camp Nou between 2003 and 2010, during which time he put Guardiola in charge of the senior squad.

The former Blaugrana midfielder had no previous experience of coaching at the highest level, having only had a year coaching the B team under his belt.

The gamble paid off spectacularly, with Guardiola leading Barca to a historic treble in his first season at the helm, and the current Bayern Munich boss remains very grateful to Laporta for taking a chance on him.

Consequently, the 44-year-old trainer would like to see Laporta prevail in next month's presidential election.

"All the aspiring candidates are good, but I can’t hide my personal ties and affection with Joan Laporta," he told reporters at a public event in Manresa.

"He was the man who gave me a chance as Barca coach."

Laporta will be going up against current Barca president, Josep Maria Bartomeu, but Jordi Majo and Augusto Benedito are also expected to run.
