OMG!: Protesting Pupils Set Ablaze N16m School Over Lack Of Renovation

Pupils of Mpozolo Senior Secondary School, Mpozolo, Eastern Cape, South Africa, had on Monday staged a protest claiming that they were being neglected and ignored by education authorities.

According to the Eastern Cape police spokesperson, Captain Jackson Manatha, the pupils also pelted the school’s inspector was called to address the learners.

In the choas that followed, the students burnt down the school, causing damage estimated at over 1 million South African Rands, about N16 million.

“The fire destroyed all the books and equipment and other documents and the damage is estimated to be in excess of R1m,” Manatha said.

The school management officially reported the case to the police who have instituted a case of arson.

No arrests have been made.
