Governor Udom Set To Sell Off Akwa Ibom State’s Private Jet
Barring last minute change of mind, Akwa Ibom State Governor, Udom Emmanuel, is on the verge to sell off the state owned private jet as the cost of maintenance is said to be a drain to the state’s purse.
According to Vanguard, Emmanuel is tinkering with the idea of selling the private jet that was bought by the immediate past governor now senator, Godswill Akpabio, as it was meant to make movement for the governor easy.
Emmanuel on assumption of office on May 29, 2015 has opted for chartered helicopters for his engagement outside the state which he considered less-expensive.
A source close to Akwa Ibom seat of power said that the governor is looking for buyer for the private jet as the cost of fueling and maintaining the aircraft is too expensive given the dwindling revenue base of the state.
“Governor Emmanuel is not comfortable with the idea of sustaining the ownership of the jet and is contemplating selling it, more so, because of the slash in states’ allocations and the high cost of aviation fuel,” the source asserted.
It will be recalled that former, Akwa Ibom State Governor, Godswill Akpabio, bought a Bombardier jet for $45 million in 2012.
