In Ondo: Judiciary Workers Call Off 5 Months Strike

The union has battled the government
over the financial independence of the
judiciary, based on a subsisting court
judgement.
Striking workers of the Ondo State
Judiciary have called off the industrial
action.
In a statement released on Sunday, May
31, the state Chairman of the Judiciary
Staff Union of Nigeria (JUSUN), Femi
Ogunode, said the union called off the
strike after reaching an agreement with
the state government on the issues that
led to the action.
The union has battled the government
over the financial independence of the
judiciary, based on a subsisting court
judgement.
JUSUN embarked on the strike on
January 5 following government’s
refusal to agree to the demand for
compliance with the court judgement.
“The union and the state government
signed a Memorandum of Understanding
based on certain agreements and so the
strike has been called off,” Ogunode said.
Reacting to the development, a member
of the union, Christopher Ayebola said
the union members are happy to get
back to work. “We are happy that after
four months of being at home, the strike
has been called off. I can tell you that I
will be the first at work on Monday,” he
said.
