A syndicate that specializes in kidnapping little children and selling them off has been smashed by operatives of the Anti-Kidnapping Unit of the Imo State Police Command, just as two suspects have been arrested.
According
to reports, the suspects, Kelechi Nwogu and Ebuka Ibe, were arrested
following a distress call by a resident of the state.
While
briefing journalist on the arrest, the Commissioner of Police in the
state, Austin Evbakhavbokum, said suspects had abducted two siblings,
Chukwuma Ezeribe (4 years) and Chigozie Ezeribe ( 3 years), while they
were returning from school at Amazu Amato, in the Orsu local government
area.
"The two victims were being conveyed by the suspects to a prospective buyer before policemen chased and arrested them.
When
a search was conducted in the house of one of the suspects, Ebuka Ibe,
the following exhibits were recovered: One locally-made revolver pistol
with one round of live ammunition, one locally-made shotgun, one
locally-made single-barrelled gun and two big iron cutters."
