Nigeria Wins 3 Bronze At Egypt Junior And Cadet T/T Open In Cairo

Nigeria’s team at the ongoing Egypt Junior and Cadet Table Tennis Open in Cairo on Wednesday clinched three bronze medals. The competition served off on June 8 and would end on June 12, with 12 countries participating. They include Algeria, Botswana, Iraq, Jordan, Saudi Arabia, India,
Nigeria, Qatar, Slovenia, Togo, Tunisia and the host country, Egypt. The medals were won in junior boys’ singles, junior girls’ team and Cadet Boys’ team.

For the junior boys’ team, the recipients are Nurudeen Hassan, Olasunkanmi Oginni and Amen Amadi, while the recipients for the junior girls’ team are Tosin Oribamise, Ajoke Ojomu and Alimot Ayinla. Michael Obayomi and Abayomi Animashaun won for the Cadet Boys team. Oginni (junior boys’ team), Ojomu and Oribamise (junior girls’ team) were seeded at the tournament.
Oginni had 724, 00 points, Ojomu 742, 00 and Oribamise 1054, 00 according to the International Table Tennis Federation (ITTF) May ranking which qualified them for seeding. Oribamise told newsmen that her ambition was to clinch the gold but was unable to achieve her goal. She promised to do her best to win the gold medals in the cadet singles, junior singles and junior girls’ doubles.
“I am trying my best but I guess I need to try harder because the end justifies the means. I want to finish well and surpass my performances here in Egypt,” she said. Oribamise won five medals at the 2014 edition which comprised of one gold, two silver and two bronze. Hassan who is making his international debut, said that he was targeting a gold to make her dream come true.
According to her, getting the bronze with his compatriots in the junior boys’ team is a stepping stone to his target. “I came here for gold and I will ensure that I get it so as to make a remarkable appearance,’’ ‘he said. 77 boys and 61 girls are taking part in the five days tourney. There are seven categories being keenly competed for at the competition.
They are the junior boys and girls singles, junior boys and girls teams, cadet boys and girls teams, junior boys and girls doubles, cadet boys and girls singles, cadet boys and girls doubles, hopes boys and girls singles.
