Ex-A’Ibom Commissioner, Uwemedimo Nwoko Causes Stir At INEC office

The immediate past Commissioner for
Justice and Attorney General of Akwa
Ibom State, Mr. Uwemedimo Nwoko, on
Tuesday, caused a stir at the
Independent National Electoral
Commission office in Uyo during the
inspection of electoral materials by the
agents of the All Progressives Congress.
People watched in surprise as Nwoko
removed his suit and folded the sleeves
of his shirts in readiness to fight with the
APC agents who were carrying out the
inspection orders of the Akwa Ibom
Election Petitions Tribunal.
The tribunal had on Thursday ordered
an “extension of time to inspect, copy
and scan ballot papers and other
election materials” used to declare
former Governor Godswill Akpabio as
the winner of the March 28, 2015 Akwa
Ibom North-West senatorial district
election.
Daniel Etokiden, the media aide to the
APC senatorial candidate for Akwa Ibom
North-West senatorial district, Mr.
Inibehe Okori, alleged that a combative
Nwoko disrupted the inspection process
by shouting and swearing.
Etokiden said that Nwoko vowed not to
allow the scanning of the over 45,000
ballot papers in contention.
He said, “INEC officials, party agents and
journalists present watched in shock as
Nwoko recreated a replica of the Godwin
Orubebe show at the International
Conference Centre, Abuja, during the
collation and announcement of the
presidential election results.
“Activities at the conference hall of the
electoral commission in Uyo, venue of
the inspection, came to a standstill for
more than two hours. Security personnel
comprising mostly men of the State
Security Service and the police, however,
pleaded with the APC agents to exercise
restraint despite the unwarranted
provocation to avoid an escalation of the
crisis.”
