Etisalat Nigeria has staked the sum of N7 million for the winners of
the 2015 edition of the Etisalat Prize for Innovation, a competition
meant to reward software developers for the most innovative mobile
broadband product, idea or service that positively impacts on mobile
users in Nigeria.
According to the telecoms company, the competition is aimed at encouraging and celebrating valuable innovation in the Nigerian market and is awarded in two categories. The first prize of N5 million is for the most innovative product or service launched in the last 12 months and a second prize of N2 million is for the most innovative idea.
Chief executive officer, Etisalat Nigeria, Matthew Willsher, said that the Etisalat Prize for Innovation is a reflection of the character of Etisalat aimed at promoting and nurturing talent. “Our core business is to develop innovative initiatives, products and services and we recognise the importance of broadband in different sectors of the economy including, education and business,” he said.
Anthony Oniwon, the developer of Exammate, an Exam preparatory programme for JAMB candidates, won the first prize of $25,000 for the Most Innovative Product or Service in 2014 while the second prize of $10,000 for the Most Innovative Idea was presented to Abdulganiyu Onabanjo, the developer of Interactive Media Interface Design (IMID), a remote communication interface for GPRS-enabled pre-paid meters.
