Jose Mourinho expects Filipe Luis to rejoin Atletico Madrid within the next 24 hours, with Chelsea eyeing Abdul Baba Rahman as his replacement.
Filipe Luis only joined Chelsea from Atletico last summer, but the 29-year-old is heading back to Spain after just 12 months and 26 appearances for a fee only marginally less than the £15.8million the Blues originally shelled out.
Augsburg’s Rahman has long been linked with a move to Stamford Bridge as Filipe Luis’ replacement and, although Mourinho did not confirm his interest in the 21-year-old, he did admit he will need to sign a left-back as he maintains his policy of only signing players as replacements.
“In this moment we need a left-back because I think we are selling Filipe Luis now or tomorrow,” Mourinho said.
“At the moment we don’t want players. It’s simple.
“But we must be ready because it looks like the market is open, and there is always a risk somebody comes for one of our players or one of our players shows an interest in leaving.”
